I recently visited Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park and I must say, it was an incredible experience. The park is located in Wilson, North Carolina and is home to over 30 large-scale whirligigs created by the late Vollis Simpson. Each of the whirligigs is a unique and intricate piece of art, made from a variety of salvaged materials such as old farm equipment, car parts, and scrap metal. The sheer size and complexity of these whirligigs is truly awe-inspiring and it’s easy to see why Simpson’s work has been celebrated both nationally and internationally. Beyond the stunning artwork, the park is also a great place to relax and spend time with family and friends. You can stroll through the park, take a guided tour, or even attend one of the many events that take place throughout the year. There’s truly something for everyone at Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park. One of the things that struck me about the park was the dedication of the volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain and promote the park. Their passion for Simpson’s work and the community is palpable and adds to the overall charm of the park. If you’re ever in the Wilson area, I highly recommend taking some time to visit Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park. It’s a unique and quirky experience that you won’t want to miss.
